NASHVILLE, TN—In an unprecedented move that left the NFL and fans alike both shocked and mildly amused, the Tennessee Titans are reportedly trying to reverse their recent trade of star running back Derrick Henry, claiming the entire deal was nothing more than a “harmless prank.”
“We were just messing around, guys,” Titans GM Ran Carthon said at a hastily arranged press conference. “You know how it is, you get bored in the war room, toss a few ideas around, and suddenly you’ve traded the best running back in franchise history for what? A couple of mid-round picks? Classic gag.”
Carthon went on to explain that the Titans front office was simply “blowing off steam” after a string of tough losses, and what started as a joke about sending Henry to another team somehow spiraled out of control. “It was all fun and games until someone filed the paperwork, and, well, now we’re in this situation,” Carthon added, nervously chuckling as he glanced around the room for backup.
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel also weighed in, assuring fans that they never intended to actually go through with the deal. “We were totally going to call ‘no take-backsies,’ but then we got busy prepping for the next game. Next thing we knew, Derrick’s bags were packed, and we were getting calls from ESPN asking for a comment. This whole thing’s gotten way out of hand.”
Despite the Titans’ pleas to undo the trade and bring back the face of their offense, the NFL appears to be taking a hard stance. “The NFL rulebook is very clear on trades being legally binding and not subject to changes based on jokes, pranks, or what the kids call ‘trolling,’” said a spokesperson for the league, stifling a laugh.
In the meantime, fans have flooded social media, posting memes about the trade and begging for Henry to come back, using hashtags like #TitansTakeItBack and #BringBackTheKing. “We thought it was an April Fools’ thing, but it’s October,” said one bewildered fan outside Nissan Stadium, still clutching a life-sized cutout of Henry. “There’s just no other explanation for this level of self-sabotage.”
As the Titans scramble to figure out how to rectify their “little misunderstanding,” there are reports that Henry himself found the situation amusing. Sources close to the star claim he replied to the Titans’ apology call with a simple, “LOL, you guys.”
Whether the Titans can successfully “undo” their ill-fated decision remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: this prank has left the team in a tougher spot than a 4th-and-1 with no King Henry to carry them across the finish line.
Sources say the front office is considering additional trades “just to see what happens” but promises to include a “no jokes” clause next time around.
